Under a new government program Srinagar is to be a “SMART CITY”. Earlier PDP Election Manifesto called for building “Mega Cities and Model Villages” and “Upgrade towns … to cities” in Kashmir. These seemingly nice ideas are faulty propositions that do not resolve the underlying issues of traffic congestion, air and water pollution and the deteriorating natural environment in Kashmir. The attached writing explains the rational for this claim, and suggests ways to resolve the underlying land use planning in Kashmir.
